    I’m so excited to hear you talking about book three! I finally got my butt in gear and left a review for your latest. I tried to get the ebook from fictionwise, but they didn’t have it, so I got it from BN instead. (What’s odd about this is that I believe fictionwise belongs to BN, so you’d think they’d offer the same catalogue.)

    Anyway, I loved the book. I read in one big go, stopping only for quick snacks. And then I read it again from start to finish, this time slowly. It goes without saying that I re-read the first book beforehand, because I do that whenever it’s a series. (This is an increasingly time-consuming approach with some series, like Sookie Stackhouse, lol.)

    BTW, I cancelled cable years ago. There are only so many hours in the day and I’d rather spend my couch-potato time reading and/or surfing the Internet. I’ve found that I don’t miss it at all, especially the bills ;-)

    Fictionwise has the first novel but not the second. Huh! I wonder why?

    But I’m glad you like the book. Thank you for giving it a try.

    As for our cable-tv-less home, we’ve been reading the Harry Potter novels aloud for the benefit of my wife and son. It’s been terrific fun.

    Buying the book wasn’t a big risk, since I loved the first one in the series ;-)

    It’s happened a few times recently that I’ve found that fictionwise doesn’t offer the current book of an author whose work I’ve bought there before. Ilona Andrews is one example.

    I’m assuming the new pricing model rolled out earlier this year and the attendant publishing wars caused some collatoral damage, which is too bad — both for the writers and the readers, because it’s better to have the widest availability possible.

    I did some digging, and it looks like the agency model Apple was instrumental in pushing through — this effort ironically spearheaded by Steve Jobs, who was not so recently quoted as saying, “People don’t read anymore” — fundamentally changed the publishing industry.

    The bottom line is that now many new works, such as yours, are no longer available for sale from vendors that have in the past offered books by these writers. From a consumer standpoint, the situation has gotten quite bad since last spring; ebooks cost more and there are far less vendors to choose from.

    There’s one writer whose series, which had received really strong reviews and was selling well, is the truly unfortunate position that none of her ebooks are available anymore (http://pamatthews.webs.com/rileymccabeseries.htm).

    It’s a real drag and I hope this all gets sorted, sooner rather than later!
