It’s after 4 am and my cough won’t let me sleep

Standard

Attention Google users: There’s no medical advice in this post.

I’ve been sleeping on the couch for two nights because I don’t want to keep my wife awake, but tonight I can’t even fall asleep on my own.

What’s more, I find that the extended edition DVDs of Lord of the Rings don’t include the theatrical version. I have to pay extra for both? I’d have been happy to forgo a NZ travelogue and a docu on the movies’ sound design for the theatrical versions, you jerks.

Screw this. I’m just going to work on my new book and to hell with going to sleep. I can pull an all-nighter like I used to do in college, right? Right?

Here’s a sleep-deprived poll about the wip: Secret lake city of the unexpectedly intelligent alligator creatures, yes or no?

  1. Yes. You had me at “secret lake city.” The alligator creatures are just icing on the cake.

Just don’t make it like the Jar Jar Binks World, okay? Not that you would, but it had to be said.

  2. “City” suggests an economic center of some size with surrounding agriculture, roads, villages, etc. I’m having a hard time envisioning that as a well-kept secret, unless all that evidence of activity is not readily detectable to the people who didn’t realize the alligators were intelligent.

If the alligator folks were a persecuted minority they might have a secret village; perhaps embedded in a larger, ruined city.

I don’t know, though. Whatever seems niftiest.

    Yes!

Sorry, I was up till 3 last night but I had to get up for class. So I promptly switched into sleepy mode. Yay college!

  4. Yes. I agree with Kate; when I hear “secret lake city” I think of Jar Jar Binks. So please do. I want to have a better go-to memory where secret lake cities are concerned.
